Persephone is taken to the Underworld by Hades, and Demeter’s grief makes the earth grow cold and barren. The gods decide that because Persephone ate the pomegranate seeds, she will spend part of the year with her mother and part with Hades, which creates the seasons. Moral: love and compromise.
